What’s up – Emma Rosell and Gothenburg Tech week

How did you end up working in tech? When I was a kid, my best friend’s dad worked from home on one of the early Apple computers. When he didn’t use it, we were allowed to borrow it to play games. This might sound like a small thing, but I think an early introduction to tech is key to creating a long-lasting interest.

When I grew a bit older, I discovered the internet – which was great in so many ways. I even wrote my project thesis in high school about the internet (this was in a time when the internet could still be referred to as a single subject). After that, the decision to study information technology at university was easy, and one that I have never regretted.

What mistake have you learned from the most? Quite a few years ago I got an offer to start a new job. At the time it was a career move and included a lot of responsibility and a salary raise. I was flattered and said yes, but I realized quite soon that it wasn’t the right choice. For me, it’s important to be able to make an impact and to change things that are not working properly, which wasn’t possible in this job. It was a mistake to not see the job for what it was when accepting it. But I learned a lot about myself, what is important to me, and what context brings out the best of me.

What is your dream for the industry? As the NetClean Head of Technology, my ultimate dream is of course that our products weren’t needed. But since this, unfortunately, does not seem to happen any time soon I dream about a time when NetClean’s products are integrated into every business.

What is your favorite NetClean product feature and why? This is a tough question to answer since there are so many good features, but my favorite feature right now must be our updated user interface in ProActive, our software that detects and blocks child sexual abuse material on work computers. The new UI really simplifies the handling of incidents for our users and takes ProActive to a new level of usability.
