Driving innovation: A conversation with NetClean’s Product Manager
Since joining NetClean in April 2024, Hans Carlson has been leading the charge in product development, ensuring our solutions stay ahead in cybersecurity and human risk detection. With a strong background in software development and a personal drive to make a real impact, he’s bringing fresh energy and expertise to the team. We sat down with him to learn more about his journey, vision, and what’s next for NetClean ProActive.
From Project Manager to Product Manager—what led you to NetClean?
Hans: I’ve spent over a decade working in software development, starting as a Project Manager before moving into Business Development and, ultimately, Product Management. What really excites me about this field is building solutions that create lasting impact, rather than just quick fixes.
At MATCHi and Winningtemp, I had the opportunity to lead teams, drive innovation, and bring meaningful products to market. But NetClean was different—it wasn’t just about product innovation; it was about solving a global problem.
Seeing firsthand the consequences of CSAM in my own network made me realize how serious and widespread this issue is. It was an eye-opener. When I came across the opportunity to join NetClean, I saw a chance to use my skills for something that truly matters—helping organizations detect and stop these risks before they escalate.
My goal is to make sure NetClean ProActive isn’t just seen as a tool, but as an essential security layer in human risk detection.
What’s your role at NetClean?
Hans: As a Product Manager, my job is to make sure our development efforts align with NetClean’s long-term goals while also delivering real value to customers. That means:
- Creating a long-term, outcome-focused product strategy to ensure sustainable success.
- Understanding what our customers need and translating that into tactical product decisions.
- Prioritizing the right problems to solve rather than jumping at quick fixes.
- Working closely with development, marketing, and sales to make sure our products are not only innovative but also practical and easy to use.
I take a problem-first approach, continuously engaging in product discovery by working with assumptions, and conducting ongoing investigation and validation of problems before deciding on a solution. That’s what leads to truly effective, lasting products.
What are your biggest priorities for the coming months?
Hans: My main focus is developing a new cloud-based solution offering that will modernize our product, reduce the operational burden on customers, and accelerate innovation. This is a big step forward for us, but we’re confident it will bring significant value and strengthen our partnerships.
At the same time, we’re working on enhancing our detection capabilities for CSAM, which is critical for helping organizations strengthen their security. But it’s not just about improving the technology—it’s about ensuring our customers can prepare, implement, and integrate these solutions seamlessly into their security strategies.
Ultimately, my goal is to make sure NetClean ProActive isn’t just seen as a tool, but as an essential security layer in human risk detection.
How do you work with different teams to bring ideas to life?
Hans: Product development is a team sport. I can’t do this alone—it takes collaboration across engineering, marketing, sales, design, and customer success to make sure we’re building the right things, in the right way.
I believe in:
- Listening first—making sure every team’s insights are heard.
- Using storytelling—translating complex concepts into clear, relatable narratives to create alignment.
- Making data-driven decisions—balancing innovation with what actually benefits the customer.
The best products aren’t built in silos—they come from bringing different perspectives together.
What’s one thing people might not know about you?
Hans: I love running. It’s not just about staying active—it’s where I do some of my best thinking.
There’s something about the rhythm of running that helps me process challenges, clear my head, and come back with fresh insights. Some of my best ideas have come to me during a long run. So if you see me out running, there’s a good chance I’m not just exercising—I’m solving a problem in my head!
